Vermont Marks First Deaths From Coronvirus
MONTPELIER, Vt. — Two people have now died in Vermont from the novel coronavirus. The information was provided during a press conference late Thursday by Gov. Phil Scott and Health Commissioner Mark Levine.
According to news reports, both patients were elderly: one was a Windsor County resident who had been hospitalized at the White River Junction VA Medical Center and the second a woman at the Burlington Health & Rehabilitation facility.
The man is presumed to be a 90-year-old patient whose testing came back for COVID-19 on March 14. At the time, there were only four cases of COVID-19 in the state, including a Readsboro man who has been hospitalized at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.
As of the afternoon of March 19, Vermont has had 22 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and completed 667 tests. Several hundred people are being monitored.
