CHESHIRE, Mass. — Hoosac Valley High School has announced that the valedictorian for the class of 2020 is Daniel Pompi and the salutatorian is Riley Robinson. 

 

A graduation ceremony is expected to be scheduled later this summer. 

 

Pompi, son of Christopher and Jill Pompi of Adams, has been involved in clubs and sports during his years at the middle and high school. He played soccer for six years and was team captain as a senior; he also was on the track and field team and in the Ski Club in Grades 8-12. He is a member of the National Honor Society and vice president during his senior year and treasurer of the class of 2020 in his junior and senior years. 

 

His activities at school and in the community including being a peer mentor for fourth-graders, volunteering at the Susan B. Anthony Birthplace and Museum and service within the Parish of Pope John Paul. He also has worked at Tanglewood and Jiminy Peak and enjoys kayaking, hiking, traveling and spending with friends. 

 

He has earned the Superintendents Award and the Presidential Academic Excellence Awards in algebra, chemistry, Advanced Placement chemistry and Spanish, and presented the Williams College Book Award. 

 

Pompi plans to attend Williams College in the fall. 

 

Robinson is the daughter of William and Lynne Robinson of Adams. She has been a member of the championship basketball team all four years of high school and was team captain during her junior and senior year. The Hurricanes were Western Massachusetts Division III champs in 2017, 2019 and 2020, and Division III state champs in 2019 and co-state champs in 2020. She was also a member of the soccer team all four years and captain in her senior year and a member of the unified track and field team as a junior and senior. 

 

She was a member of student government beginning in Grade 8 and was secretary during her senior year. She also is a member of the National Honor Society, serving as secretary in her senior year; a member of the Peer Mentor Club in Grades 10 and 11, and a Link Crew mentor for third-graders. She also was a member of the Student Athletic Leadership Council in Grades 10-12 and class secretary during those grades as well. Robinson refereed for the Police Athletic League and was a Lil' Canes mentor, teaching youngsters how to play basketball. She also went caroling at nursing homes, raked leaves for the elderly and delivered meals to shut-ins. 

 

She took AP courses in biology, chemistry, English, psychology and calculus. She is the recipient of the 2020 Berkshire County IAABO 25 Basketball Officials Sportsmanship Award; MassLive William G. Wise Award; MassLive Division III Tournament MVP; Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame First Team All-Star and the Hoophall Basketball Event Player of the Game Award; and the 2019 and 2020 MassLive WMass Division III First Team and All-Western Mass First Team Girls Soccer. She was also an MIAA student ambassador.

 

Robinson plans to pursue a doctorate in physical therapy.
