TOKYO -- On Sunday, 2009 Williams College graduate Joey Lye started at shortstop for Team Canada softball in its final preliminary round game against Italy.
Canada won by mercy rule, 8-1, and Lye had a big night. She went 2-for-2 with a single and a triple, scored two runs, stole a base, and recorded one assist.
Canada will face Mexico in the bronze medal game. In their preliminary round contest Canada prevailed over Mexico, 4-0.
The win over Italy sets up Canada with an opportunity to win its first medal in Olympics softball at midnight on July 27. That medal game will be telecast on NBC's streaming services.
