NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Police have arrested two men, including one who is believed to have been involved in a State Street altercation where gunshots were fired.

According to a statement released Thursday by the North Adams Police Department, patrol units were dispatched to 145 State St. on Saturday, Oct. 21, at approximately 11:54 p.m., for a report of an altercation taking place during which gunshots were fired at a residence.

Upon arriving on scene, officers were able to determine that six 9-millimeter rounds were fired at the residence, penetrating the upstairs apartment walls.

After gathering information from witnesses, officers put out a regional broadcast to surrounding agencies about the vehicle the alleged suspect was seen leaving the area in. Approximately 1 1/2 hours later, officers of the Adams Police Department identified the vehicle.

Adams Police, assisted by the North Adams Police Department, performed a traffic stop of this vehicle. Through information provided from witnesses, along with surveillance video, a man was taken into custody without incident.

After a subsequent investigation in the following days, North Adams detectives executed a search warrant on a city residence based on information gathered from the incident. This search warrant resulted in the seizure of two 9-millimeter handguns. A second man was taken into custody as a result of this search warrant. Both individuals have since been arraigned in Northern Berkshire District Court.
