Adams New K9 'Adam' Will Greet the Community Friday

Print Story | Email Story
ADAMS, Mass. — The police force's new K9, dubbed "Adam," will be with his handler Officer Curtis Crane at Adam's Hometown Market on Friday, Feb. 17, from 11 to noon.

Adam is the first  K9 fully funded as a direct result of the Hometown Foundation's Police K-9 Awareness Fundraiser. The fundraiser collected in-store donations at the register in all 18 Adams Hometown Market locations to collectively fundraise for the Adams K-9 Fund, which resulted in the purchase of K9 Adam. This donation is the first of its kind and, according to the foundation, shows how the community can come together behind an important cause to create a tangible result.

Adam will be taking over the position of K9 Kumar, who has served the community for the last 10 years. Adam is a dual-purpose patrol dog who will specialize in obedience, tracking, building/area searches, evidence recovery, suspect apprehension and detection for illegal narcotics.

The placement of any K9 has many benefits and can play an integral role in community policing. K9 Adam will be attending many community events and public demonstrations.

In addition to the donation of K9 Adam, the Adams Hometown Market store, beginning this month, will provide financial aid of $2,000 per year for five years to support the Adams K-9 unit through on-going in-store fundraising programs. This store location opened on March 29, 2019, and will soon be celebrating its fourth year anniversary.

The Hometown Foundation Inc. is committed to equipping law enforcement agencies with police canine units to ensure they are serving their communities positively and impartially.
