March Going Out Like a Lion; Winter Storm Watch for Berkshires

12:28PM / Sunday, March 22, 2020

It may be spring but Mother Nature is giving us one last blast of March winter.

Parts of the Berkshires and Southern Vermont could get up to 10 inches of snow Monday and into Tuesday.

The National Weather Service's office in Albany, N.Y., has issued a winter storm watch from Monday afternoon through late Monday night.

NWS is forecasting 2 to 4 inches during the day Monday and another 3 to 5 later in the evening. A few more inches could arrive early on Tuesday and again on Wednesday through Thursday, when it may finally change over to rain as temperatures rise.

Accuweather says the pair of storms moving thorugh the upper Midwest and into the Northeast will begin dropping snow over the Berkshires by around 11 a.m. on Monday.

"Timing may be just right Monday night into Tuesday morning for portions of western Massachusetts, southern Vermont, New Hampshire and southern Maine to see snowfall totals of half a foot or more," according to Accuweather. https://tinyurl.com/vl4t7v3

"The snow will be heavy and wet, so where more than 6 inches pile up, this could weigh down trees and electrical lines and lead to isolated power outages," AccuWeather Meteorologist Renee Duff said.

The snow will be heavy and wet, says Greylock Snow Day, so keep the shovels handy.

The weather won't be causing too many delays, since schools are out and some businesses closed or operating with shortened hours and staff because of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

We're looking for better, sunnier weather by the end of the week — and hopefully a healthier period as we move further into spring.
