DALTON, Mass. – Danielle Hagmaier scored in overtime Thursday to give the Wahconah girls lacrosse team its first win of the season on the night it celebrated its senior class.

Hagmaier scored six goals and assisted on two more in a 16-15 win over Lee.

“Fantastic game tonight, back and forth,” Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said.” This was definitely the most exciting game for us this season. Tonight was our Senior Night and Youth Night, so to have this be our first win of the season was extra special.”

Ava Massaro scored four goals and recorded five assists.

Mia Thomas and Olivia Roberts each had a hat trick, and Phalyn Renderer stopped 11 shots to earn the win between the pipes.

“The girls battled hard all game,” Budaj said. “We were ahead 15-14 with only a few seconds left and the ball took a little bounce and went in as the time expired which forced us into overtime.

“Going into OT we spoke about not letting that goal define this game seeing how we worked so hard. We told them to go out and keep playing the way they were and leave it all on the field. In overtime Danielle made an amazing back handed shot to win the game.”

Elizabeth Ballinger scored a game-high nine goals for Lee. Annette Boykoe scored four goals, and Ashley Sonsini scored a pair.

Reese Duschesne made eight stops in Lee’s goal.

The Wildcats (6-9) host Springfield Central on Saturday.

Wahconah (1-15) goes to McCann Tech on Friday.
