Center for Ecological Technology receives Renewable Energy funds

The Center for Ecological Technology has been awarded Renewable Energy Trust grants totaling $325,000, according to state Sen. Andrea F. Nuciforo, Jr. (D-Pittsfield).

“CET does an excellent job of helping residents and businesses lessen their impact on the environment,” Nuciforo said about the nonprofit organization in Pittsfield. “This money will be used to spur economical development in western Massachusetts, while harnessing a renewable energy source.”

CET will use the funding from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) for several solar photovoltaic (PV) installations on farms, businesses, and cultural and educational institutions.

These grants are the first installation awards from the Solar-to-Market Initiative. The Trust has committed $10 million to the initiative in order to expand the production and use of PV technologies. The solar PV industry provides hundreds of manufacturing, installation, and service jobs in the Commonwealth, while providing clean, electric power.

According to CET, the center’s mission is “to research, develop, demonstrate and promote those technologies that have the least destructive impact on the natural ecology of the earth.”

MTC is the state’s development agency for renewable energy and the innovation economy. MTC works with companies to create new jobs and stimulate economic activity in communities throughout the Commonwealth. In total, MTC awarded $2.6 million in new grants from the state’s Renewable Energy Trust program.
