Herndon-Schmid's Game-Winner Seals Comeback Win for Lenox Girls Sports

10:51PM / Monday, October 28, 2019

LENOX, Mass. -- Solia Herndon-Schmid scored in the 58th minute to give the Lenox girls soccer team a 3-2, come-from-behind win over Taconic on Monday night.
Taconic struck for two goals in the first 30 minutes as Sydnie Sherman and Tiffin Martin found the back of the net.
Herndon-Schmid scored an unassisted goal just before half-time to get Lenox to the break down, 2-1.
“It was Senior Night for five of our Lenox seniors tonight, and all played an important role in a comeback win,” Lenox coach Kyle Zinchuk said. “After digging ourselves a 0-2 hole, the seniors needed to be strong leaders and right the ship to earn a win on their night.
“After giving up those goals, seniors Taylor Knight and Kat Nichols helped us sort things out defensively and shut out Taconic's attack for the remaining 50 minutes. Meanwhile, seniors Claire Lynch and Erin Czelusniak were making good decisions on the attack to help us maintain possession and keep the ball pinned in Taconic's end.”
Mary Elliot tied it with a shot from 18 yards out in the 54th minute.
Czelusniak set up Herndon-Schmid for the game-winner.
“Senior Julia Haddad was mentally tough shaking off those early goals and coming up big a few times in the second half, none bigger than coming off her line to block a shot on a breakaway while the game was still tied,” Zinchuk said.
Haddad finished with 10 saves to earn the win.
Leeyia Hoose stopped 10 shots for Taconic, which finishes the season 1-16.
Lenox (8-8-1) learns Friday when and against whom it will begin play in the Western Mass tournament.
