AGAWAM, Mass. – Despite missing two seniors due to illness, the Mount Greylock volleyball team Friday beat Agawam in three sets to stay undefeated this fall.

Celina Savage recorded 19 kills in the 25-12, 25-17, 25-23.

The hosts battled to the end, leading most of the third set. Mount Greylock took its first lead at 23-22. Coach Greg Geyer credited Gianna Pesce (six kills) and Emily Alvarez with supplying the service pressure that allowed their team to close out the match in three.

Kylie Sweren had a strong night across the board, passing out 27 assists to go with seven aces and a pair of kills.

The Mounties were without one of their top servers, Talia Kapiloff and its leader in passing percentage and service percentage, Jackie Brannan.

“"We are a team that practices together and pushes each other and our backups have as much to do with our success as our starters,” Geyer said. “Tonight that work ethic proved crucial as we played all nine varsity players who could attend in one unit and everyone contributed to pull out a win against a very scrappy opponent that beat Lee and took Wahconah to five sets.”

Mount Greylock (15-0) hosts Ludlow on Tuesday.
