NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Pittsfield baseball team Wednesday had a longer day and a shorter day than it expected, and it came away with a win and a loss.

The Generals started their vacation week Hump Day in Longmeadow to finish a game that was suspended by darkness back on April 8.

They ended up going 12 innings against the Lancers, who finally prevailed when Josh Greene worked a five-pitch, bases loaded walk to give the hosts a 4-3 win.

Pittsfield and Longmeadow played eight scoreless innings after the Lancers scored three in the bottom of the third nine days earlier to tie the game, 3-3.

Three Generals combined to allow no earned runs in the loss. Matthew Burega went the longest and was on the hill when it ended; he went four and one third innings, striking out a pair, walking four and not allowing a hit.

Pittsfield then got back on the bus and made the trip north to face the Blue Devils in Northampton.

That game ended after five innings in an 11-0 Pittsfield win.

Simon Mele doubled three times and drove in five runs to lead the Generals’ offense.

Anthony Frieri, Jackson Almeida and Nick Brindle also doubled in a 10-hit Pittsfield attack.

Cam Harrington and Roshan Warriar combined on the one-hit shutout.

Harrington got the win, striking out two and allowing two base runners in four innings of work. Warriar struck out two without allowing a runner in the fifth.

Pittsfield (3-1) finishes the vacation week at home on Friday against West Springfield at Clapp Park.
