SHEFFIELD, Mass. — Junior Andrew Leitch capped off an amazing regular season with his first shutout of the year, allowing just five hits and one walk to carry the Mount Greylock baseball team to a 7-0 win at Mount Everett on Thursday.
Leitch went the distance, striking out four batters to improve his record to 7-1 as a starter. The Mounties' hurler hasn't lost since April 20, winning seven straight decisions while posting a stellar 1.35 ERA along the way. Leitch also helped himself at the plate on Thursday, smacking a two-run single in the top of the sixth inning that helped the visitors score the last of their seven runs.
Junior Eddie Dufur got things rolling for Greylock (14-5) with an RBI triple in the top of the third. He finished 2 for 3 with one RBI and later scored after his triple when classmate Eric Leitch (1 for 3, two RBIs) drove him in with a single to left field. The Mounties added single runs in both the fourth and fifth frames before Andrew Leitch broke the game open with his big hit in the sixth.
Senior Billy Pulasky also went 2 for 3 with a walk and one run scored for Greylock, which closes out the regular season with a Berkshire Classic home game against Taconic at 4 p.m. on Friday.
Colby Rueger and Dylan Wheeler each had two hits apiece for the Eagles, who finish the regular season with a record of 12-8. Erik Derwitsch took the loss for Everett, allowing two earned runs on five hits in four innings of work.
