Hoosac Can't Seal the Deal in loss to PHS

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Hoosac Valley baseball team received a quality start out of senior Collin Kline on Thursday, but Pittsfield made more plays at the end of the game, getting an RBI single from Chris Robitalle in a two-run sixth inning that lifted the Generals to a 6-5 win at home.
Kline allowed only three earned runs on seven hits in a complete-game performance for the Hurricanes, who fell to 5-4 with the loss. He walked three and struck out two batters while having to battle three Hoosac errors on the day. The disappointing thing for Hurricanes head coach Bob Rivard was seeing his team drop another game by just a single run.
"The tough part about it is we have four losses now, and three of them have been by one run," Rivard said. "We didn't play as well as we should have against Pittsfield. We just couldn't finish anything defensively or offensively. Collin Kilne pitched very well in the loss, but we just came up short."
Caleb Roach pitched all seven innings to earn the victory for the Generals (5-5). Robitalle's RBI single in the sixth scored John Martin for the winning run, and he also added a run-scoring triple earlier in the game. Pittsfield scored two runs each in the third and fourth innings to open a 4-1 lead. Hoosac plated two runs each in the top of the fifth and sixth frames to retake the lead, but that didn't last long as the Generals got the final say with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.
Kline led a seven-hit attack for the 'Canes offense, going 2 for 4 with an RBI triple and one run scored. Junior Zach Lancia also came through with a two-run double in the game.
Hoosac next plays at Mount Greylock at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
