CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Senior Collin Kilne gave the best pitching performance the Hoosac Valley baseball team has seen in the past six games, holding Mount Everett to just three hits in an 8-0 win at home on Thursday.

Kline went the distance to earn the complete-game shutout and his first win of the season. He struck out nine Eagles and walked three to help the Hurricanes improve their season record to 7-5.

"Collin pitched great today and was in total control of the game," Hoosac head coach Bob Rivard said. "The team also hit well and our hitting is starting to get better. We also made all of the plays we needed to make on defense today, and we seem to be getting better in that department as well."

The 'Canes scored a run each in the first and second innings before opening up a sizable 5-0 lead with a three-run fourth frame. Everett loaded the bases in the fifth inning, but Kline was able to pitch out of the jam. Juniors Corey Meczywor and Tanner Bird each had two hits and an RBI in the game, while classmate Slayter Aubin went 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored.

Jackson Aldam pitched five innings and took the loss for the Eagles.

Hoosac next hosts St. Joe's for a 4 p.m. game on Friday.
