Greylock Bats Quieted by Wahconah's Folan

DALTON, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock baseball team had scored 18 runs combined in its last two games, and then the Mounties ran smack dab into Wahconah's Shawn Folan, who stymied Greylock's bats in a 7-0 win for the Warriors on Friday afternoon.

Steve Messina's team had been hot at the plate as of late, posting 12 runs in a win over Lee last weekend before scoring six more in a victory over Lenox on Tuesday. That all changed when Folan came around, however, thanks to some nifty off-speed pitches that kept the Mounties (4-6) guessing all game long. Folan allowed just three hits, struck out seven and walked just one batter on his way to earning a win in his first career varsity start.

Wahconah jumped on Greylock starter Brandon DeCelles with three runs in the first inning and later padded the lead with three more runs in the fourth frame. Trevor Jamross sparked the Warriors offense, going 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and three RBI. Teammate Hunter Crine also chipped in with a triple and two runs batted in.

DeCelles took the loss, giving up five earned runs on seven hits in his five innings of work. He was relieved by junior Avery Cunningham, who was charged with one unearned run in sixth inning. Senior Kyle Byrnes was the only Mounties batter to really figure Folan out, collecting two out his team's three hits in the game.

Greylock next hosts Hoosac Valley at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
