Greylock's Offense Explodes in Win Over Everett

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- No matter who Mount Everett sent to the mound on Tuesday, the Mount Greylock baseball team had all of their numbers. The Mounties roughed up three different Eagles' pitchers for a season-high 16 hits and 17 runs, allowing Steve Messina's team to pull above the .500 mark for the first time this season with a 17-3 win at home.

Greylock, which improved to 8-7 on the year, has won three straight games and has gone 6-2 since starting the season off at 2-5.

The Mounties trailed 2-0 after the first half of an inning, but quickly took control of the game by reeling off seven unanswered runs over the next three frames. A six-run fifth inning was all Greylock starter Tommy Nowlan needed to improve his personal record to 6-2 this year. The senior captain was locked in, allowing just three hits, one earned run and four walks to go along with three strikeouts. Nowlan lasted five innings before handing the ball over to sophomore Eric Lietch, who struck out three batters in two scoreless innings of relief.

Six different players had at least two hits for the hosts, while 10 different batters collected at least one RBI. Seniors Kevin Agostini and Brandon DeCelles led the way with two hits, two runs scored and three RBI apiece. Agostini was particularly impressive, reaching base all four times he came to the plate. Nowlan, sophomore Sean Houston and classmate Eddie Dufur each knocked in two runs each for the Mounties, who next play against Drury at Joe Wolfe Field on Wednesday afternoon. Gametime is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
