Warriors' Bats too Much for Mounties

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Wahconah softball hit the ball hard on Saturday, collecting six extra-base hits and scoring in five out of the seven innings to earn a 12-5 road win over Mount Greylock.

Led by junior captain Michaela DiNicola's 3 for 4 day with one RBI, the Mounties (4-6) scored one run in the sixth inning and four more in the bottom of the seventh to make the score a little less one sided. It was all the Warriors before that, however, as the team from Dalton opened up a 5-0 lead after five innings and a 10-1 lead after six.

"Wahconah did a great job at the plate," Greylock head coach June Blake said. "Our bats finally came to life in the seventh, but it was a little too late."

Kelcie Yarmey went 4 for 5 to lead Wahconah, while senior Sara Hamilton had three hits, including two doubles and a single. Sophomore Gabby Lavinio finished with three hits, needing just a home run in order to hit for the cycle.

Senior Sam Burgner picked up the win for the Warriors, while sophomore Alexis Bushika was charged with the loss.

Junior Sierra Holland added two RBI for the Mounties, who next play at Hoosac Valley at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
