BENNINGTON, Vt. -- Mount Greylock head softball coach June Blake gave her team a message on Friday. After seeing the results of the Mounties' 12-2 win over Mount Anthony, it seems clear that the Mounties were listening to their first-year skipper's instructions.

"Before the game, I stressed patience at the plate," Blake said. "We did just that by working for 15 hits and eight walks. Alexis [Bushika] did a great job on the mound, mixing things up, and our defense made the plays today."

With a new approach at the plate, Greylock (5-8) broke out for its best offensive outing in nearly a month against the Patriots. The Mounties scored three runs in the third inning and five more in the fourth to open up an 8-1 lead. Blake's squad kept the pedal to the medal, too, scoring two runs apiece in the sixth and seventh frames to put the game away.

Three different players collected three hits apiece for Greylock, including freshman Kendal Frye, who also drove in a team-high three runs on the day. Bushika, who picked up her fifth win in the circle this season, went 3 for 5 with an RBI and three runs scored, while senior Catie Benoit finished 3 for 5 with a run scored and two RBI.

Alyssa Mangiardi, Michaela DiNicola and Sierra Holland each drove in a pair of runs for the Mounties. Bushika went the distance, allowing one earned run on seven hits, striking out three batters and walking two.

Greylock next hosts Pittsfield at 4 p.m. on Monday.
