Mounties' Rally Comes up Short in Loss to Generals

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock softball team did most of their damage late on Monday, putting a scare into a Pittsfield team that led 6-1 at one point. Unfortunately for the Mounties, their comeback attempt came up just short, and the Generals held on for a 7-6 win on the road.

June Blake's squad fell behind by five runs after Pittsfield scored twice in the top of the fifth. Greylock (5-9) came back strong with a four-run fifth of its own, cutting the Generals' lead down to 6-5. The Generals added a much-needed insurance run in the top of the seventh, and the Mounties came up just a run short of tying the game with single run in their half of the seventh.

Greylock ouhit Pittsfield 9-8 in the game, led by two hits apiece from Alyssa Mangiardi, Michaela DiNicola and Alexis Bushika. DiNicola and Bushika each knocked in a pair of runs as well, while Caitie Beniot and Sierra Holland also added RBI in the game.

Bushika started on the mound and was hurt by five errors by the Mounties' defense. Only two of her seven runs were earned in a two-strikeout, zero-walk complete-game performance.

Greylock gets another shot at the Generals when they play them again in Pittsfield at 4 p.m. on Friday.
