Bushika's Blast Propels Mounties over Braves

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Alexis Bushika's bat got loose early and her arm never tired late, leading the Mount Greylock softball team to a 6-1 win over Taconic on Wednesday.

The Mounties sophomore keyed a three-run first inning for her team, blasting a leadoff home run against the Braves' Sarah Pero after quickly falling behind 0-2 in the count. June Blake's club would go on to score two more runs and collect three more hits in the frame, giving Bushika plenty of cushion from the circle. Greylock (3-4) scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings, and Bushika didn't allow Taconic to get on the board until the Braves scored their lone run of the game in the sixth.

"We got off to a quick start in the first inning led by Alexis' leadoff home run," Blake said. "We limited Taconic's scoring opportunities by allowing only five base runners in the game."

Bushika played a big part in that, only allowing one run on five hits to improve her season record to 3-4. She had good location and kept the Braves' hitters off balance, striking out five batters while allowing just one walk in the game. Junior Sierra Holland led the Mounties offense, going 3 for 3 with two RBI and one run scored, while Michaela DiNicola and Kendal Frye each contributed two hits apiece.

Greylock next plays at Turners Falls at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
