SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Emily Steuernagle scored 16 points, including the game-winning basket in the closing seconds, and the Mount Everett girls basketball team came from behind to earn a 32-30 win over Hopkins Academy on Friday.

“What a great way to finish the game today on Senior Night for our girls,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “1.1 seconds on the clock our ball underneath, the first initial screens were not open and then Emily made a cut to the basket took a little contact no call but banked in the game winner. Great way to end the game for our four seniors Allison [Steuernagel], Megan [Loring], Julia [Devoti], and Emily tonight.”

The Eagles trailed by eight points going into the fourth quarter.

But Steuernagle scored nine points in the game-winning rally

“The girls could've easily folded and quit going into the fourth, but they dug in and didn't quit and battled which is something we've done all season and was a nice way to send the girls out on Senior Night,” King said. “After the game on Wednesday [a 77-6 loss on the road] these girls could've easily packed in and not cared, but they didn't, which was awesome to see them finish tonight.”

Ella Gennari and Loring each scored four points in the win.

Mount Everett (3-15) finishes the season next week at Baystate Charter on Monday and home against Athol on Tuesday.
