WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Drury football team Saturday steamrolled Pathfinder in a convincing, 43-13 win at Mount Greylock Regional School. 

 

It was a tale of two styles in tonight's matchup with Drury (4-0) looking to pound the ball on the ground and Pathfinder looking to be a threat through the air.

 

Drury started the game with a nice long drive on the ground, tallying a 12-play drive for 80 yards and the score. Louis Guilotte had a bulk of the carries and finally got the score from 9 yards out to give Drury the early lead.

 

Pathfinder answered right back with a drive of its own, including two long passes, one for 48 yards and one for 13 yards to get them in good position to tie this game back up. The PIoneers eventually ran it in from the 1-yard line but failed to convert the extra point, leaving them behind Drury, 8-6.

 

Things started to pick up from this point on as Drury powered down the field once again with Guilotte scoring his second touchdown of the night with a nice 41-yard run.

 

Guillotte finished with more than 200 yards rushing and four touchdowns in the game.

 

It was then up to the Blue Devils’ defense to make a stand to try and get some separation and that is exactly what they did. On the first play from scrimmage Judge Martin was able to tip a pass in the air for Jaysahwn Moore to intercept it and give Drury great field position and momentum. It took three plays for Drury to get the score, and this time it was Jayshawn Moore making the play on the offensive end and running it in. Drury led 22-6 and never looked back. 

 

“Their quarterback is good, he’s the best one we’ve seen all year,” Drury coach Al Marceau said. “We knew they were dangerous in the passing game, but it's hard to mimic their speed so on that first drive we were like oh wow they can move, but our defense stepped up. They started to trust what they’ve been taught and what they’ve seen and started to play so it was nice to see.”

 

That defense was called into action on the next drive, getting pressure on the quarterback and forcing a turnover. This time it was on a sack fumble that Mark Layme was able to jump on giving the Blue Devils better field position once again.

 

After running the ball early and often it was only a matter of time before Drury opened them up through the air and that time was planned perfectly as Ben McDonough found Dominic Carnevale down the middle for a 37-yard score. Drury tacked on one more touchdown by Guilotte just before the half, giving the Blue Devils a 36-6 lead. 

 

Drury’s early defensive plays really helped take the sting out of the game early and constant pressure on the quarterback never let Pathfinder get comfortable. Between Guilotte and Moore running the ball behind the great job of the offensive line it was always going to be tough for any type of comeback and Drury knew that late in the game. 

 

“I was really pleased that our line fired out tonight and kept their feet moving, we finished plays tonight and our backs and ends blocked sensationally tonight and I can’t say enough about everyone stepping up and really being physical,” Marceau said. 

 

Guilotte added his fourth touchdown of the night, capping off a great performance all around for Drury. With the score being so lopsided it was time for the younger guys to get some action and really get some good minutes against a tough team. Drury will look to keep the undefeated season against Smith Vocational next week at home before taking on Berkshire County foe Monument Mountain in Great Barrington in the last game of the season.
