CHESHIRE, Mass. — An own goal in the 75th minute took away a win for the Hoosac Valley boys' soccer team, but the Hurricanes still have to be happy with the 1-1 tie they earned against Wahconah on Friday.
Camilo Bermudez's squad took a 1-0 lead in the first half when senior Nick Ryan scored off of a pass from junior Lucas Bourdon in the 23rd minute of play. Led by the strong goalkeeping of senior Tom Galisa, Hoosac (4-2) was able to hold the Warriors off the scoreboard despite being outshot 7-4 in the first half.
Wahconah (3-3-3) kept the pressure on the Hurricanes' defense in the second half, outshooting the hosts 6-3. The visitors eventually broke through with five minutes left on the clock, though, when one of their seven corner kicks bounced off Galisa's foot and went in. Galisa tried to catch the inward-swinging kick but slipped on the way up, allowing the ball to go in. It was a tough way to end the game for Galisa, who was very strong in the Hoosac net with 11 saves on the day.
Keeper Chris Dapson finished with three saves for the Warriors, who next host St. Joe's at 4 p.m. on Monday. The Hurricanes also play at Pittsfield at the same time on Monday.
