Laliberte, Hornets Shut Out Putnam

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — It's been an up-and-down season for the McCann Tech boys' soccer team so far. For senior goalie P.J. Laliberte and the rest of the Hornets' defense, Friday's 4-0 home win over Putnam was certainly one of the high points.

Laliberte made six saves on his way to earning his first career shutout between the pipes. The McCann offense, meanwhile, did all of its damage during a 15-minute span between each half.

"It was a nice shutout for P.J.," Hornets head coach Adam Kozik said. "He shared goalkeeping duties during his freshman year. He played the first half of every game and had a shutout then, but this was his first full-game shutout of his high school career. Dillon Carr was also very strong in his defensive role, and the team passed very well today."

The game was scoreless until the final minute of the first half, when sophomore forward Shane Fuller beat Beavers' goalie Matt Toores (five saves) with a low shot to the right corner. McCann (4-2) really turned it on in the second half then, scoring three goals within the first 14 minutes of play. Senior Chad Raimer netted his team-leading eighth goal of the season with a low shot to the left corner just 11 seconds into the second half.

Junior Evan LeMire followed that up with another goal scored off of a low, hard shot less that two minutes later. Fuller than wrapped up the scoring in the 54th minute, scoring his second goal of the game on a curling high shot from the right side.

The Hornets next host Pioneer Valley Christian at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
