PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Claudio Velez and Caesar Miranda each scored a goal within the first eight minutes of the game on Monday, giving the Pittsfield boys' soccer team all the scoring it would need to earn a 2-0 home win over Hoosac Valley.

The Hurricanes' offense, which was outshot 15-10 in the game, was shut out for the first time in four matches. The Generals, however, received its first goal less than two minutes into the game when Velez finished off a pass from Miranda. The latter then scored his own goal six minutes later, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead at the half.

Pittsfield (2-4-1) outshot Hoosac (4-3-1) 8-4 in the second half, but Hurricanes' keeper Tom Galisa made four out of his 10 saves after the break to keep the game within reach. Generals' goalie Jake Farron was even better, however, stopping seven Hoosac shots throughout the game to earn his first shutout of the year.

The Hurricanes next play at Lee at 4 p.m. on Thursday. The Generals host Wahconah at the same time on Thursday.
