NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Connor Meehan scored late in regulation to break a scoreless tie and send the Drury High School boys soccer team to a 1-0 season-opening victory over Mohawk on Wednesday afternoon.
Matt Vachereau fed Meehan with a through ball on the right side, and Meehan finished in the 73rd minute to get the Devils (1-0) on the board.
"We came out playing well but just couldn't finish," Drury coach Greg Caproni said. "We talke about what we needed to refine during half-time, and the boys kept at it in the second half. We made a late change to the system we were playing to play for the win and it worked out in our favor.
"What a great way to start the season."
Tyler Cote played a strong game defensively, and Drury keeper Joe Liporace made three saves.
Drury hosts Hoosac Valley on Friday afternoon.
