Drury Can't Finish in Loss to Taconic

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Drury girls' soccer team was shut out for the third game in a row on Thursday, but Blue Devils head coach Molly Meczywor was upbeat after seeing her team drop a 2-0 decision at Taconic.

"This was our best game yet," Meczywor said. "We finally put two full halves of soccer together and moved the ball well against a strong team."

The Braves (2-3) took a 1-0 lead 18 minutes into the game when Alyssa Latimer beat Drury goalkeeper Ali Tatro with a direct kick. Tatro finished the game with 12 saves, and the Drury defense, led by senior Danielle Racette, kept Taconic off the board until midway through the second half. Meczywor said her defense was hurt by the loss of junior Morgan Lamarre, and that could have been one reason why Katherine Barry found some open space on the weak side to put Taconic up 2-0 in the 58th minute of play.

The Braves held a 14-9 edge in shots in the game, but the Blue Devils (1-5) also had their chances with a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

"Both teams had excellent chances to score," Meczywor said. "We didn't score on a PK, which would have changed the layout of the game. Offensively, we had several good chances, but we need to finish."

Drury next hosts St. Joe's at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
