BUCKLAND, Mass. -- Unlike last season, the Mount Greylock girls' soccer team is certainly finding its path across the goal line a little bit easier this year. After struggling to score goals in the 2010 season, the Mounties continued their assault on twine this fall by finding the back of the net six times in a 6-0 victory over Mohawk on Wednesday.

In three games this year, Tom Ostheimer's club has scored a mouth-dropping 14 goals. Greylock (2-0-1) started relatively slow on Wednesday, managing only two tallies on 14 shots in the first half against the Warriors. Sophomore Miranda Bucky and junior striker Alex Majetich each collected goals before halftime, but the Mounties waited to do most of their damage in the second half.

Sophomore Sophie Leamon first scored off of a pass from Bucky five minutes into the second half to give Greylock a 3-0 advantage. Mohawk kept the game in reach until the 62nd minute, when Majetich sent home her second goal of the game. Senior Erin Ostheimer and sophomore Kelsey Hebert followed with unassisted goals of their own to close out the game's scoring.

Overall, the Mounties held a 26-5 edge in shots on goal.

"We thoroughly dominated play, though we had difficulty scoring on some easy opportunities," Coach Ostheimer said. "Finally, the offense came through in the second half."

It was relatively quite day for Greylock goalie Margot Besnard (one save), who combined with Allison Shand (five saves) to earn the shutout. Junior stopper Alexa Adams played solid defense all game long while also assisting on Majetich's first goal of the game. The Warriors received 11 saves from keeper Sally Slowinski in defeat.

The Mounties next play at Drury at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
