LENOX, Mass. -- Three different players scored for the Wahconah girls soccer team in a 4-1 win over Lenox on Saturday afternoon.

Arden McKnight, Emmy Cote and Becky Steele had a goal apiece, and Wahconah (5-4) benefited from an own goal.

Lenox coach Kyle Zinchuk said the score does not convey how close the game really was.

“We responded well to the first goal, getting the equalizer, and then just about everything that could possibly go wrong for us in the first half ... did go wrong,” Zinchuk said. “We gave up an unfortunate own goal, made a poor decision earning a foul just inside the 18 leading to the PK, and then lost our starting goalie with an injury.”

“Despite all that, we came out and played an even second half.  Unfortunately at that point is was going to take our best half of soccer to get back into the game, and we just didn't play our best half.”

McKnight opened the scoring for Wahconah on an assist from Allison Washburn in the 16th minute. Four minutes later, Abby Schilling scored the equalizer for Lenox (7-2-1).

The own goal gave Wahconah the lead in the 31st minute, and Cote converted the penalty kick to make it 3-1 at half-time.

In the second half, Becky Steele gave the visitors an insurance goal against backup keeper Taylor Knight, who made five saves after spelling Shannon Meisberger (four saves).

Michaela Moncecchi made 10 stops for Wahconah, which visits Hoosac Valley on Monday.

Lenox looks to snap a two-game losing streak Thursday at Lee.
