Ouimet's Big Day Drives Devils to Fifth Straight Win

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The offense of the Drury baseball team just couldn't be stopped on Wednesday night. In all, the Blue Devils had 10 different players smack a total of 15 hits on their way to a commanding 12-1 win over Lenox at Joe Wolfe Field.

The victory over the Millionaires was the third one already this week for Al Marceau's club, which has now won eight of its last nine games to improve its record to 8-3 on the season.

Sophomore Ryan Ouimet was the big standout of the day, hitting 3 for 3 with four RBI and one run scored. Senior Chase Preite added two hits and a run batted in, while junior Max Quinn collected two hits, two RBI and hit a solo home run in the third inning. Quinn's bomb sparked a three-run frame for Drury, giving the hosts a 5-1 lead at the time. The Blue Devils only padded that over the next three innings, scoring a total of seven runs to put the game out of reach.

"It was a very good offensive effort by the whole squad," Marceau said. "Max hit a monster home run in the third, and I'm very happy for Rikki [Brown] and Ryan because they both have been working hard in the cage. You can see that the work paid off tonight."

Brown scored a run and collected an RBI hit in the game, while sophomore catcher Cody Primmer also contributed two hits and two runs scored on the night. Senior Tyler Benoit improved his record to 3-0 by allowing one unearned run in his five innings of work. He struck out four and walked five batters before giving the ball up to junior Joel Giorgi, who threw two scoreless innings to close out the game. The two pitchers only allowed Lenox three hits the entire game.

"Tyler never really got comfortable on the mound and his control was a little off early, but he settled in and gave us five good innings," Marceau said. "Joel pitched two strong innings and has really emerged as a quality relief pitcher. He's been instrumental in keeping our starters fresh in this stretch of seven games in eight days. We've been playing pretty good baseball, but we have a big test tomorrow against Taconic. Going on the road against a very good team will tell us a lot."

First pitch against the Braves is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
