GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- The Hoosac Valley baseball team got the start they needed from senior Nate Alibozek, but the Hurricanes couldn't push enough runs across the plate to put Monument Mountain away, eventually losing 4-3 in eight innings on Saturday.

Alibozek allowed three earned runs and four walks through seven innings of work, leaving the game with five strikeouts and the score tied at 3-3. The Spartans, who improved to 15-4 with the win, scored the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Matt Chamberland scored on Hoosac's third error of the game.

"We had sereral chances to score, but we just didn't get the timely hit," Hurricanes head coach Bob Rivard said. "Nate Alibozek pitched a great game, and the kids really battled all game long."

Travis Wilton went the distance to earn the win for Monument, which took a 1-0 lead by scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. Hoosac (11-7) followed up with two runs in the second inning and one more in the fourth, only to see the Spartans rally with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

Juniors Slayter Aubin and Zach Lancia led the way for the 'Canes offense, each collecting two hits. Lancia had a double and knocked in pair of runs, while Aubin also hit double and scored a run of his own.

Hoosac closes out the regular season with a rare double header in two different locations on Sunday, first playing at Mount Everett at 11 a.m. before traveling to St. Joe's for a 3:30 p.m. game in the afternoon.
