Drury Runs Out of Answers in Loss to Taconic

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Two tired and worn out teams played each other on Thursday. In the end, it was the Taconic baseball team, playing its eighth game in 12 days, that took down Drury, which was playing its sixth contest in the last seven days. Both teams had plenty of offense, but it was the Braves, who scored seven times in the bottom of the sixth inning, who prevailed 15-9 at home.

Al Marceau's club had made all the right moves so far this week, getting quality innings out of starters Max Quinn, Alex Bush and Tyler Benoit to go 3-0 to start a brutal stretch of five games in five days. Marceau couldn't find an answer for Taconic (10-4), however, which chased starter Robert Jutras out of the game after just one inning and had their way with the three other pitchers Marceau trotted to the mound.

"It was a tough loss today," Marceau said. "We ran out of pitching and had three guys go down with ailments. We couldn't piece together enough arms to get us through seven, and it really hurt. Offensively, we really hit the ball all over. I'm really proud of the way we battled. We tried to outscore them but came up a little short. We made them go to their ace to close it out and even threatened against him. Anytime we score nine runs, I'm pretty sure we will come out on top."

Sophomore catcher Brian Bonacquisti perhaps struck the biggest blow for Taconic, bashing a three-run homer over the fence in left field in the Braves' seven-run sixth inning. He finished the game 3 for 3 with seven runs batted in, while Peter Gregory earned the win for the hosts by pitching just under two innings of work.

Junior Joel Giorgi took the loss for the Blue Devils (8-4), although he was Marceau's most effective pitcher on the day, allowing two earned runs with two Ks and two walks in just under four innings of work. Several Drury players had big days at the plate, led by sophomore catcher Cody Primmer, who went 4 for 4 with three runs scored.

Bush finished 2 for 2 with two doubles and three RBI, while Quinn added a 3 for 4 day with a triple and a run batted in. Senior leadoff hitter Peter Dassatti also chipped in with two hits and two RBI.

The Blue Devils are back in action again on Friday, hosing Wahconah for a 4 p.m. game.
