NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Drury baseball team ended a hectic week with another solid performance from one of its starting pitchers on Friday. The Blue Devils were faced with a brutal five-game-in-five-days slate this week, but got three quality starts from its pitching staff to open the week with a 3-1 record. On Friday, Drury got another solid performance from junior starter Max Quinn, who allowed one earned on six hits in a complete-game 5-1 win over Wahconah at Joe Wolfe Field.

Quinn didn't allow a walk and struck out six batters to improve his record to 3-1 on the season. He allowed only a single run in the top of the first inning before closing out the game with six scoreless frames. The Blue Devils (9-4) took the lead with with a three-run second inning, highlighted by a two-run single by senior Peter Dassatti with two outs in the frame. Quinn then helped himself out at the plate, hitting an RBI double in a two-run fifth inning that gave Drury a four-run lead.

Seniors Chase Preite and Tyler Benoit each had two hits for the Blue Devils offense. Shawn Folan took the loss for Wahconah, lasting five innings before giving way to the Warriors' bullpen.

"I thought it was a great response to a tough loss against Taconic," Drury head coach Al Marceau said. "We came out with alot of energy today. Max pitched seven great innings and allowed us to let our other pitchers take the day off. After a three-hit first inning, Max settled in and cruised the rest of the way. He was extremely efficient and in command. He also helped us with a monster double to left center. A strong wind blowing in from left was the only thing that kept the ball in the park.

"We also got some excellent base running from Rikki Brown and Cody Primmer, who each used their legs to get us two runs. It was a great team win, finishing off a run of seven games in eight days. We ended the run on a strong note and ended up 6-1 over the eight-day span. I'm very proud of the effort our team gave over this difficult stretch."

The Blue Devils will go for their 10th win of the season on Monday, when they play at rival Hoosac Valley at 4 p.m.
