Blue Devils Wear Down Mounties in Win

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Mount Greylock starter Andrew Leitch was up to the challenge, but the Drury baseball team wore him down as the game went along by scratching out several two-out hits to earn a 9-0 win at Joe Wolfe Field on Saturday afternoon.
Leitch held the Blue Devils to just two runs in the first inning before shutting them down over the next three frames. Drury (11-4) finally got to him for two more runs in the fifth inning before breaking the game open with five more runs off of Mounties reliever Eric Leitch in the sixth.
Chase Preite, Ryan Ouimet, Robert Jutras and Peter Dassatti each had two hits and all contributed at least two RBI with two-out hits. Preite led the way with a double, three RBI and a run scored, while Dassatti added a triple to go along with two runs scored and two more batted in. The two senior table setters have set the tone on offense this year for Al Marceau's squad. Preite is currently leading the Blue Devils with a .434 average, while Dassatti is right behind him hitting .431.
"We came out a little flat after having the Monument game rained our after three innings on Saturday," Marceau said. "Our bats were quiet early, but that was because of Andrew Leitch. He kept us off-balance, and they fielded the ball behind him. We had some timely hits from our offense. The two-out hits that drive in runs really help swing momentum in a game like this, and they help build confidence for your offense."
Nine runs was nice, but two runs was still plenty of offense for Devils starter Tyler Benoit. The senior captain had another great outing, raising his season record to 4-0 by allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out nine through six innings of work. Junior Max Quinn pitched a scoreless seventh frame to close out the victory for Drury.
"On the mound, we got exactly what we expected from Tyler," Marceau said. "He was dominate as usual, and Max finished off the game with a nice inning of relief. The two of them have been dominate all year on the mound, and both have big starts later this week."
Andrew Leitch (five Ks, one walk) gave up just three hits, but was done in by four unearned runs on three Greylock errors. The Mounties (9-8) could only manage four singles in the game, one each by Andrew Leitch, Kyle Byrnes, Brandon DeCelles and Nick Zimmerman.
The Blue Devils next host Mount Anthony for a 4:30 p.m. game on Monday, while Greylock hosts Taconic for a 4 p.m. contest on Tuesday.
