Mounties' Bats Bash Millionaires

LENOX, Mass. — The offense of the Mount Greylock baseball team is potent enough by itself. So when an opposing squad gives the Mounties nine free bases, things can get out of control quickly.

Lenox found that out the hard way on Friday, allowing nine walks in all while Greylock exploded for 18 hits in a 19-0 win in a game shortened to just six innings due to the mercy rule. The Mounties (7-3) scored double-digit runs for the fifth time this season, taking quick control of the game by scoring 11 times over the first two innings.

Seniors Billy Pulasky and Josh Fortier both hit two-run home runs in Greylock's five-run first inning. Pulasky also walked three times and scored four runs overall, while Fortier went 2-for-2 with a walk and five RBIs. Junior Eric Leitch also had a solid day at the plate for the visitors, going 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.

Millionaires' starter Zach Huber lasted just 2 1/3 innings, allowing 11 earned runs on eight hits to take the loss. Lenox (4-8) used four pitchers overall in the game and seemed to slow the Mounties down somewhat by giving up just two more runs from the third to fifth innings. Greylock came back with six more runs in the top of the sixth frame, however, to end the contest one inning early.

While the Millionaires' pitching staff struggled with their control, Mounties freshman Ian Brink was right on the money. The young hurler pitched a one-hitter in his first start of the season, striking out five and walking two to earn his first win of the year. Trevor Hathaway had Lenox's lone hit of the day, singling to center field in the bottom of the third inning.

Greylock returns to action on Monday with a home game against Pittsfield at 4 p.m.
