Blue Devils Keep Blazing in Win over Brattleboro

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Drury baseball team kept up its recent hot streak on Monday, breaking out for nine runs on 11 hits on offense to earn a 9-2 win over Brattleboro at Joe Wolfe Field. Since starting the season 0-2, the Blue Devils have won six out of their last seven games.

Drury junior Robert Jutras led a potent offensive attack that gave starter Max Quinn a comfortable 6-1 lead after the first three innings. Jutras went 2 for 3 on the day with a triple and a team-leading four runs batted in. He currently leads the Devils in that category with 11 on the season. Quinn also had a triple to go along with two RBI on the day, while fellow juniors Joel Giorgi and Zach Plante each chipped in with two hits and one RBI apiece.

It's the contributions of both Giorgi and Plante that has Drury head coach Al Marceau most excited after his team's latest win.

"Joel came in the game and did a great job closing out the last two innings," Marceau said. "He's been our spark plug offensively off of the bench. He added two more hits, two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases in the game tonight. Joel gives us a nice reliever out of the pen, a great utility infield play and a nice bat I'm juggling to keep in the lineup.

"Zach has also been a pleasant surprise in the outfield and with the bat. He is 4 for 7 with the bat in limited duty and consistently puts the ball in play. He does a very nice job extending innings from the bottom of the order and runs the bases well."

Overall, Marceau got a ton of production from the bottom of his lineup on Monday. The Blue Devils' 6-9 hitters combined for eight hits, seven RBI and four runs scored in the victory over Brattleboro. Quinn gave up just one unearned run in five innings of work to earn his second win of the season, striking out three and walking one batter.

Drury is back in action again today with a home game against Pittsfield at 4:15 p.m.
