Wahconah Miscues Helps Greylock Even Record

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Tommy Nowlan certainly made life interesting, but he found his pitching rhythm in just the nick of time, working his way out of two-bases loaded jams in the first two innings of Thursday's baseball game between Mount Greylock and Wahconah. The Mounties offense did the rest, scoring nine runs over the first three innings on their way to a 15-6 win at home.

Nowlan did allow a single run in the top of the first inning, but it was nothing compared to the damage that could have been done considering the Warriors had the bases loaded with less than two outs in each of the first two frames. Nowlan ended up putting in five innings of work, allowing two earns runs and five walks while striking out four to improve his record to 2-1 on the season.

Sophomore Eric Lietch went the rest of the way, allowing four earned runs with three Ks and one walk over the final two innings.

"It was a very, very cold day, and both teams struggled to get loose," Greylock head coach Steve Messina said. "It was difficult to get into a groove, but Tommy worked out of early trouble in the first two innings. We were then able to get some timely hits and take advantage of some Wahconah miscues."

The Warriors made four errors on the day, allowing the Mounties (2-2) to score 15 runs on just 10 hits. Nowlan and sophomore Sean Houston each collected two hits on the day, while Billy Pulasky, Kyle Brynes and Nick Zimmerman came up with some timely hitting that resulted in each of them knocking in two runs apiece.

Greylock next plays at Hoosac Valley at 1 p.m. on Friday.
