Mounties Beat the Rain, Sweep Series from Eagles

SHEFFIELD, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock baseball team got off to a hot start and it certainly paid off in a 10-1 win over Mount Everett on Saturday. The Mounties jumped out to a quick 10-0 run after just two innings, which proved critical in a game shortened to just five innings due to rain.

Steve Messina's team busted out for eight runs alone in the second frame, giving freshman pitcher Robbie Buffis all of the support he would need in order to pick up his second win of the year. Buffis did the rest, allowing just one earned run on three hits, striking out three and walking two in five innings of work.

Greylock improved to 9-7 with the win and defeated the Eagles for the second time in four days. The Mounties pounded out 10 hits in the game, led by two hits apiece from Billy Pulasky, Tommy Nowlan and Eddie Dufur. Pulasky and Dufur each collected two RBI in the game, while senior Kyle Byrnes came through with a double and three runs batted in.

Greylock will try and clinch its 10th win and a spot in the Western Mass. tournament with a road game at Drury at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.
