WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Carolyn Jones scored five goals, including the 200th of her career, to lead the Mount Greylock girls lacrosse team to a 15-5 win over Granby on Wednesday in the semi-finals of the Central/Western Massachusetts Division 2 tournament.
With at least one more game left to play, Jones has 246 career points, the third-highest in the history of the Mount Greylock program.
“Mount Greylock benefitted from a deeper group of lacrosse players, we have had five or more different girls score for us in each of our previous three games,” Mounties coach Steve Jones said. “As a team we continue to rely heavily on Christy Rech who is exemplary at goal. Defensively Delaney Babcock. Mackenzie Sheehy Lexi Politis and Gabriela Quagliano anchored us,
“Zoe Armet and Emma Stevens transitioned the ball to the offense with speed and Ainsley Abel and Sarah Polumbo are spearheading our offense. Lucy McWeeny and Tessa Leveque have developed incredibly over the season and now we are lucky to have multiple athletes who can score.”
Sarah Poumbo hit the back of the net four times on Wednesday. Zoe Armet and Ainsley Abel each scored a pair, and Tess Leveque and Emma Stevens had a goal apiece.
Sixth-seeded Mount Greylock (9-2) moves on to Friday’s sectional final against No. 1 Bromfield (16-0), a 17-5 winner over Wahconah on Wednesday. It will be a rematch of the 2019 Central/Western Mass final, a 19-1 Bromfield win.
