Is this softball or football weather? On a cold, blustery, wet afternoon we turned the tables on Wahconah. They were not very good hosts when we played them in Dalton beating us 9 to 3. Well, turnabout is fair play beating them on our home field 11 to 5
In the first inning Ali Brassard reached on a single, after an out Heather Morris belted one over the left field fence for a 2 RBI home run.
Wahconah came back in the top of the 2nd with 5 runs on 5 hits and 2 Drury errors. In the inning Chloe Warren belted a 2 RBI home run over the center field fence into the JV field nearly missing the JV centerfielder.
We then tied the game in the bottom of the 2nd with 3 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks.
We shut them down in the 3rd and 4th and we scored 2 more runs in the 3rd on 2 hits and 2 walks; one a double by Ali Brassard scoring Maya Howland.
Wahconah threatened in the 5th inning. After an out we allowed back to back singles with runners advancing to 2nd and 3rd on heads up base running. The next batter flew out to Cellana in centerfield and the next girl grounded out to shortstop.
This was a very big, emotional game for Drury; a game where offense, defense and pitching were all contributing factors to the win.
