Drury Returns the Favor in Win over Everett

SHEFFIELD, Mass. -- Don't look now, but the Drury softball team is starting to find its way in the 2011 season.

The Blue Devils won their fourth game in a row on Friday, defeating Mount Everett 2-1 on the road to improve their overall record to 6-2. The Eagles had beat the Blue Devils by the same score just nine days ago in North Adams,  but the script was flipped the second time around.

Drury did all of its damage in the first inning, when junior Lyndsey DeGrenier, who led the way with a 3 for 3 day, started things off with a two-out single. Senior Kendra Hinkell followed with a run-scoring double to left-center field and would later score when classmate Ashley Mirante smoked a hard-hit ball that the Everett shortstop was unable to handle.

The Eagles scored their lone run in the second inning, but couldn't find their way back to home plate again the rest of the game against Blue Devils starter Cat Record. Everett threatened by putting a runner on second base with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Record got a strikeout, a fly ball to center field and a groundout to third base to retire the side and improve her season record to 5-1. The freshman hurler threw a complete game, only allowing four hits to go along with six strikeouts and zero walks.

Drury next hosts Wahconah at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
