NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The McCann Tech softball team was mired in a two-game losing streak and things got even worse when Holyoke Catholic jumped out to a 5-0 lead after just two innings on Wednesday afternoon. The Hornets were caught flat-footed but slowly found their traction as the game went along, tying the score with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and winning the game on a two-run blast to the fence by Ashley Alibozek in the sixth frame.

Senior Katlyn Haring slammed the door on the Gaels in the top of the seventh, giving McCann a come-from-behind 7-5 win.

"What a game," Hornets head coach Robin Finnegan said. "We came out flat in the first two innings, and Holyoke hit the ball well. I give the girls a ton of credit for not giving up and coming back to win the game. They chipped away until we tied the score. We executed some bunts and had some great baserunning. I was disappointed in the way we came out in the first inning but was very pleased that we settled down and had the heart to come back. It showed a lot of character."

Sophomore Katie Hancock went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and also laid down a key bunt in the sixth that put runners in scoring position for Alibozek to knock home. Junior Brittany Briggs also had a good day at the plate, going 2 for 4 with two runs batted in.

Haring added two hits of her own in addition to pitching a complete game. She gave up four earned runs on 11 hits with one strikeout and no walks to improve her season record to 5-2.

McCann, which improved to 6-3 with the win, next plays at Granby at 4 p.m. on Monday.
