Kazimierczak's Home Run Keeps HV Undefeated

ADAMS, Mass. -- The Hoosac Valley softball team's second comeback of the day was short and sweet.

The Hurricanes, which had already rallied from a three-run deficit earlier in their game against Pittsfield, got up in the bottom of the seventh trailing 6-5. All it took for Morgan Shafer's club to retake the lead and win the game was two batters. Junior Tanelle Ciempa led off with a single and then freshman Kassanda Kazimierczak followed with a shot down the third-base line. Ciempa scored easily, and Kazimierczak beat the throw home to give Hoosac a dramatic 7-6 win at home and help it improve its 2011 record to a perfect 3-0.

"What a game," an excited Shafer said after her team rallied for the win.

It was already the second time this year that Kazimierczak hit a round tripper. The young third baseman has made a serious impact with the Hurricanes through the first three games of the season, batting a team-leading .667 with six RBI.

The Generals took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but Hoosac came right back with a three-spot of it own in the bottom half of the inning. Tanelle Ciempa, who went 3 for 4 with four RBI in the game, came up with two men on and cleared the bases with a three-run bomb down the third-base line.

Senior Karli Schrade, who had two hits on the day, gave the hosts the lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, and Ciempa added a little insurance by scoring Schrade with an RBI double.

Pittsfield then came back with three runs in the seventh, getting to Hurricanes starter Amanda Meczywor for three runs. The senior hurler wasn't her usual dominant self on Friday, but still got her third win of the season by allowing five earned runs on nine hits. Meczywor didn't strike any batters out, but only allowed one walk in the game.

Hoosac next hosts Renaissance for a 1 p.m. game on Monday.
