ADAMS, Mass. --The Hoosac Valley softball team got a quick lead en route to a 7-0 win over Lee on Tuesday afternoon at Russell Field.
The Hurricanes allowed one hit in the top of the first from Lee's Nikki Laudon, but threw out the next two batters at first leaving her stranded on third base.
Kali Puppulo led off for the Hurricanes and brought in their first run of the first inning with an inside-the-park home run. That was followed by a two-run triple for Brooke Jamros and a steal of home by Megan Goyette, who was the courtesy runner for Jamros.
Puppolo then cruised through the middle innings on her way to a nine-strikeout afternoon.
"She threw exceptionally well," Hoosac coach Mike Ameen said. "She only threw 84 pitches, which for a seven-inning game is not a lot of pitches. She was around the plate and when they put the ball in play we made three or four outstanding plays."
Lee got on base again in the sixth after Kendra Williams was walked, but Puppolo struck out the next batter and two more after that were thrown out at first.
In the second half of the sixth inning Hoosac put two more on the board. And Puppolo came out in the top of the seventh and struck out three batters in a row to leave the final score at 7-0.
Lee (7-7) hosts Monument Mountain Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. Hoosac (6-5) travels to St. Joe Thursday for a 4 p.m. start at the Doyle Complex.
