Short-handed Braves Fall to Millionaires

LENOX, Mass. -- Junior Angela O'Neil and sophomore Brianna Rogers did their best to pick up the slack, but the loss of starting center Nyanna Slaughter was too much for the Taconic girls' basketball team to overcome in a 45-36 loss to Lenox on Friday night.

O'Neil led the Braves (2-15) by hitting four 3-pointers on her way to a team-high 14 points, while Rogers was solid in the post with 12 points and six rebounds. Still, the void left by Slaughter, who injured her knee two days earlier in a game against Drury, was too much for the Taconic offense to overcome. Slaughter's averages of 9.75 points and 9.25 rebounds per game could have played a major role in a game the Braves lost by nine points.

The Millionaires (11-7) took advantage of Slaughter's absence in the middle, getting a game-high 16 points from forward Liz Mitts. Kathy Prescott added 14 points for Lenox, which narrowly outscored the visitors in every quarter of the game.

Junior Kirsten McNeice scored five points and added a team-high eight rebounds for Taconic, which next hosts Cathedral at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
