Generals' Comeback Falls Short

LONGMEADOW, Mass. -- The Pittsfield girls' basketball team went down shooting on Friday but when it thinks about its 57-48 loss to Longmeadow, the Generals will no doubt turn to the third quarter to find out where things went wrong.

Down by just one point (21-20) at halftime, Pittsfield (1-1) was outscored 20-5 in the third quarter thanks mainly to the Lancers sinking three 3-pointers in a row to start the second half. Before the visitors could catch their breath, they trailed by 16 points heading into the fourth quarter.

"The lead changed six times during the first half," Generals head coach Joe Racicot said. "We appeared to get back on a shooting spree in the fourth quarter by hitting five threes. Dominique Satrape made three of those, while teammate Trinity Cookis added two more. Longmeadow made 8 of 11 free throws in the quarter to keep our team from an impressive comeback.'

Led by Satrape and senior Courtney McLaughlin's game-high 16 points each, Pittsfield reeled off an impressive 23-point effort in the fourth quarter. The Lancers' solid shooting at the foul line, however, ensured the visitors would not be able to pull off the monster comeback. Cookis added 10 points for the Generals, who also received 14 rebounds and seven assists from senior center Rachael Hunt.

Emily Martin netted a pair of threes on her way to a team-high 12 points for Longmeadow. Pittsfield next hosts Northampton at 7 p.m. on Friday.
