DALTON, Mass. – Madison McCarthy scored 21 points Monday to lead the Wahconah girls basketball team to a 49-43 win over Drury.
McCarthy scored 10 points in the second quarter, when Wahconah outscored the Blue Devils, 18-10, to take a 27-15 lead into half-time.
Drury coach Ian Downey said his squad did not play with a sense of urgency in the first half.
“The girls played so much better in the second half, but we had to play chaotic to get there,” he said. “When that happens, it’s tough to find your girl and rotate correctly and if you make a mistake doing that when you are trying to get back into the game, it hurts even more.”
LIly Mirante scored all five of her points, and Addisyn Sheppard scored five of her 11 in the fourth quarter, when Drury rallied to trim the deficit by five.

Jacinta Felix matched Sheppared with 11 points to tie for team-high honors. Hannah LaCasse scored nine in the loss.
Brooke Harrington scored nine for Wahconah (7-6), which hosts Amherst-Pelham on Thursday.
Drury (6-7) goes to Taconic on Wednesday.
