
DALTON, Mass. – In a highly anticipated matchup, the Chicopee Comp football team emerged victorious over Wahconah, with a commanding 35-0 win.
Following a string of consecutive wins against tough opponents, Wahconah opened strong on defense, forcing a turnover on downs after a well-executed stop. However, its offense was unable to capitalize, coming up empty on the ensuing drive.
Within a few plays, Chicopee Comp’s defense struck back, capitalizing on the interception of a Gio Venable pass near midfield which led to an early score for the Colts to give them an early 7-0 lead. Throughout the first half, Chicopee Comp effectively controlled the tempo, while Wahconah struggled to find its offensive rhythm.
In the second quarter, Wahconah showed signs of life on offense, converting a crucial third-and-long pass to Rick Rando. But its momentum was cut short when a fake punt attempt was stuffed by Chicopee Comp, halting their progress.
Chicopee Comp made the most of the opportunity, punching in another touchdown just before halftime to take a 13-0 advantage. Their defense stayed dominant in the second half, and the special teams added to the pressure by blocking a punt on Wahconah’s opening drive, setting up another quick score to extend the lead to 21-0.
Wahconah’s offensive struggles continued as Chicopee Comp’s defense consistently shut down their attempts to move the ball. Despite flashes of effort, Wahconah could not find a rhythm or generate momentum against the relentless Chicopee Comp defense.
In the final quarter, Chicopee Comp added two more touchdowns to seal the 35-0 victory. Its defensive front pressured quarterback Venable into difficult throws, while the Wahconah offense never found its footing.
Wahconah will look to regroup and bounce back when it travels to face Amherst next week.
