Joseph Case Baseball Stops Wahconah

SWANSEA, Mass. – The Joseph Case baseball team Monday overcame an early two-run deficit and went on to a 5-2 win over Wahconah in the first round of the Division 4 State Tournament.
 
Wahconah broke open a scoreless game in the top of the third inning.
 
Aiden Hagmaier was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and he went to second on a Dom Marcella sacrifice bunt.
 
With two out, Beau Walton reached on an infield single that put runners at the corners.
 
James Rabuse was then hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Ryan Marauszwski reached on an error that allowed both Hagmaier and Walton to score.
 
Joseph Case came back to tie it, 2-2, in the bottom of the inning.
 
And, in the bottom of the fifth, two runners scored on an outfield error to give the 14th-seeded Cardinals (11-10) a 4-2 lead.
 
Walton went 2-for-4 to lead Wahconah’s offense.
 
Braedyn Melle went 5 innings on the mound, allowing just two earned runs. Rabuse pitched one inning of scoreless relief in the sixth.
 
Joseph Case moves on to face No. 3 Clinton, a 1-0 winner over Ipswich on Monday.
 
Wahconah finishes the season with a record of 13-9.
