PITTSFIELD, Mass. - It was a fourth quarter timeout called by the Monument Mountain boys' lacrosse team that gave it the play it needed to break the 6-6 tie and seize the momentum to finish with a 9-7 win over Taconic Thursday evening at Taconic High School.

"Basically I set up the play that we were able to execute properly, it was basically a sweeping play for the guy to come out on his strong hand," Monument coach Rob Leary said. "And it worked."

The shot came from Thomas Berle, who also scored a goal in the second quarter.

The Spartans found the back of the net again about a minute later from John Bianco to go ahead 8-6; Taconic then called a timeout and shortly after Cody Latimer scored putting them down by one (8-7).

But Monument added one final goal from Joe Labrasca and was able to hold on for the victory.

"We've been building, we started three years ago; so this is our third season in," Leary said. "We've been fighting, we have a small team and had a few guys out today, but we keep trying to build and move forward and stay positive and we finished the season at 7-10."

Taconic held the lead until the middle of the third quarter; leading at half-time 3-2. Bianco gave Monument their first lead going ahead 5-4; Taconic then tied it back up with a goal from Brad Cobb and then went ahead to end the third quarter 6-5 with a shot from Kevyn Harris.

For Taconic, Mitchell Parise finished with two goals, Cobb had two, Harris had two, and Latimer had one.

Taconic (0-13) is scheduled to finish the year at Lee on Friday.
